MATTHEW SWEET AND VELVET CRUSH, LIVE AT THE 9:30 CLUB

The
staff at Planting Seeds once again got the opportunity to witness great
melodic pop music in a double billing of Matthew Sweet and Velvet Crush.
The band's November 13, 2004 show at Washington DC's famed 9:30 Club was
nothing short of 120 minutes of pure upbeat catchy jangly Rock & Roll music.
Matthew Sweet's band also included VC's Ric Menck (Drums) and Paul Chastain
(Guitar). Sweet kicked things off with the hit singles "I've Been Waiting"
(from the 1991 classic "Girlfriend") and "Time Capsule." In between the
packed crowd was entertained by tracks from Matthew Sweet's latest records
"Kimi Ga Suki" and "Living Things" (both on Racm Records) as well as "100%,"
"Blue Sky On Mars" and "Altered Beast." Matthew Sweet performed "Girlfriend"
as one of his three encores. The Velvet Crush set placed in middle of the
Sweet set, featured 1994's "Hold Me Up" (Teenage Symphonies To God) , "Play
For Keeps," (Heavy Changes) "Ash and Earth," "Goin' To My Head" (from Free
Expression) as well as tracks from their latest LP "Stereo Blues." The Velvet
Crush portion of the set closed with another fabulous track from the "Teenage
Symphonies To God" LP - "Atmosphere." If you get a chance check the band
out - brings us back to the time we saw the Crush about a decade earlier
as well as Sweet about four or five years ago...
