“don’t call on
me”
“Thanks
to TV syndication, The Monkees have influenced several generations by
now. Kids feel safe in The Monkees world, and their music reflects that
turmoil-free TV universe of 60s sitcoms. It's pop, upbeat, and groovy,
and when you're a kid, that's fantastic — it's how I felt. So the songs
stuck to me in formative years. The fact that they were written by the
talented Mike Nesmith and many top hit-writers of the day (who were competing
with the likes of The Beatles) didn't hurt the quality and staying power
of this catalogue, which stands up well today.” -Ad Boc
