Astroblast

A noise-pop band from Austin, TX, Astroblast (now defunct) originally started as a joint venture between two bands sharing practice space outside of Waco, TX in 1995. After exhausting their student loans and discovering that most of their time was spent in Austin anyways, the band made the move down I-35 in 1998. Blending a collective lifetime of talent, this four-piece created melodies by extracting a unique flavor of pop from seemingly random noise and combining that distilled sound with innovative songwriting born out of each member's unique and varied musical tastes. Influences included such artists as The Pixies, Link Wray, Swervedriver, Yo La Tengo and the sweet melodies of the ice cream truck. The band's lineup consisted of Jenn (vocals and keyboards), Bob (lead guitar), Chris (bass), and Jacob (drums). During its brief existence, Astroblast accumulated many highlights including a variety of tours across the USA and Canada, all in support of their two LP's - 1999's "The Scientist" (self-released) and 2002's sole Planting Seeds release "This Will Help You On Your Way." Their appearance at the 2000 Warped Tour and NXNW was at the head of their resume. The band also found time to contribute to a Breeders tribute LP titled "Hellbound" - released in May of 2001.
