Freeheat
Freeheat was formed at the end of the 20th century, consisting of four members - Jim Reid (vocals and guitar) was a founding member of The Jesus & Mary Chain and remained in that group until their chaotic demise in 1998 after which the Mary Chain's Reid brothers went their separate ways. Guitarist Ben Lurie was also in The Jesus & Mary Chain for the best part of a decade. Nick Sanderson on drums also fronts his own band, the London-based Earl Brutus . Bass player Romi Mori used to be a member of The Gun Club.
Freeheat debuted on disc with 2000's Dont Worry Be Happy EP (Hall Of Records, USA), followed in 2002 with the The Retox EP (Outafocus Recordings, UK). In 2004 the band appeared on Planting Seeds Records reflective collection Sunsets And Silhouettes, with "Back on The Water (Acoustic Version)" which also featured exclusive tracks from Sister Vanilla (Linda and William Reid), Mark Gardener (Ride), Camera Obscura, and Goldrush among others.
Freeheat's long awaited LP "Back On The Water" was officially released in North America on June 13, 2006 via US indie label Planting Seeds Records. It marks the first official appearances of many of Jim Reid's/Ben Lurie's post Jesus & Mary Chain songs. From the groove driven lead off track "Keep On Truckin'," the sugar driven pop fuzz of "Down," and the ever so beautiful "Don't Look Back." 17 tracks live plus sessions recorded at the Mary Chain's Drug Store studios. The LP was mastered by NYC icon Kramer (Galaxie 500, Low, Sonic Youth, Bongwater, etc)
Jim Reid is also currently recording material for a solo LP release. He is joined by Phil King (ex Lush, Jesus & Mary Chain) on lead guitar, Loz Colbert (ex Ride) on Drums and Mark Crozer on Bass. Jim has also been performing his new material at several shows around Europe. He released his debut solo single "Song For A Secret" (Along with a track from Sister Vanilla -"Can't Stop The Rock"), which was released on the UK's Transistor Records in November of 2005. A second single, "Dead End Kids" was released in the UK on July 17, 2006. For more information on Jim's latest activity please visit myspace.com/jimreid
